Receiving a “Score Withheld” result instead of an expected “Pass” and, hopefully not, “Failed” result after taking the NPTE can be nerve-wracking. However, it’s important to understand that this doesn’t necessarily mean something negative. It could be a good thing!
Let’s explore why scores might be “withheld” and what it means for you.
Mismatched Registration Data: There is a discrepancy between the information you provided during registration and the data received from Prometric. This could be as simple as a name mismatch or a registration error. Shockingly, these things happen!
Narrow Range of Studying: Your test responses suggest that you studied a very narrow range of topics. For instance, you didn’t answer a single question correctly on neuromuscular or musculoskeletal topics but aced all the wound care questions.
Test Center Incidents: Something happened at the testing center that requires more investigation, like accessing a phone/materials during a break. Investigation regarding these incidences are expected.
Low Scores: If your score is very low as if you were just guessing during the test.
Large Score Gains: Your score significantly improved compared to previous attempts. Great for you but understandable that the FSBPT may feel skeptical.
Receiving a “score withheld” notice isn’t a cause for panic. It’s simply a part of the process to ensure fairness and accuracy. When they reach out to you, stay calm, answer all questions honestly, and await your final results. More information can be found on the official FSBPT website.
